LPG e-KYC Deadline Extended to September 7 as OMCs Update Systems
The e-KYC deadline for domestic LPG connections has been extended to September 7, with software updates enabling distributors to handle non-compliant stocks.
The deadline for domestic LPG consumers to complete biometric e-KYC authentication has been extended to September 7, according to a communication sent by Indian Oil Corporation to distributors. The move provides clarity for households that had until August 31 to complete the process.
In a related development, software systems at LPG distributorships have been updated to handle non-eKYC stock. Jagan Mohan Reddy, president of the Telangana LPG Distributors Association, confirmed the update, noting it signals that oil marketing companies (OMCs) are preparing for potential policy changes. The software patch, rolled out across distributorships of all three OMCs, includes a feature to block customers who have not completed authentication.
A senior OMC official stated that while the software is ready, no instructions have yet been issued on the price at which refills will be supplied to households that miss the new deadline. Currently, consumers who fail to complete e-KYC may not receive refills at the subsidised domestic rate. Once authentication is completed, supply at the domestic rate will resume.
Approximately 86% of the 1.26 crore domestic LPG users have already completed e-KYC. The official noted that many of those yet to comply may hold multiple connections, which is not permitted under current rules. The extension and software updates are part of ongoing efforts to ensure domestic refills reach only intended beneficiaries.
