LPU Suspends Classes for 10 Days, Postpones Mid-Term Exams Amid Campus Unrest

Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Punjab's Phagwara has suspended regular classes for 10 days and postponed its mid-term examinations until further notice, following widespread student unrest over an alleged rape on the campus.

In a notice to students, the university said classes would remain suspended with effect from September 28. The revised schedule for the mid-term examinations will be shared separately through the University Management System.

Students have been permitted to travel to their hometowns during the 10-day period after consulting their parents or guardians. Those who choose to remain on campus have been advised to stay inside their hostels or places of residence and to avoid unnecessary movement or involvement in activities linked to the unrest.

The protests broke out in the Phagwara area early on Sunday morning after word spread on social media about the alleged rape of a university student within the campus premises.

Police said the investigation to establish the facts is still underway and have not yet confirmed whether a student was raped inside the campus. The identity of the accused is not known so far. An FIR has been registered against multiple unidentified persons, and further inquiries are continuing.
