Lucknow Cantt Gets Rs 100 Crore Boost: 14 Projects Laid Out
Centre and UP join hands to launch 14 development projects worth over Rs 100 crore in Lucknow Cantonment.
Lucknow, August 30: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath performed the ground-breaking ceremony for 14 development projects in Lucknow Cantonment, with a combined investment exceeding Rs 100 crore. The initiative spans water supply, education, healthcare, sports, sanitation, and urban infrastructure.
Among the key projects are an AI-based solid waste management plant, a multi-utility sports complex, a modern crematorium, and a 1500 KL underground reservoir. The civic upgrade also includes replacing old water pipelines, constructing eight tubewells with SCADA automation, and setting up overhead tanks. A special school for differently-abled children and additional classrooms at local schools are part of the education push. The list also features a multi-level robotic car parking facility and a legacy waste bio-mining project.
Two of the projects are being implemented jointly with the state government: the RA Bazar City Polyclinic and the Mukhyamantri Abhyudaya Coaching Centre. Following the ceremony, the two leaders joined around 4,000 people to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Mann ki Baat' programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Singh said the projects reflect a comprehensive effort to improve civic amenities and urban infrastructure in the Cantonment. He noted that coordinated efforts by the Centre and the state can accelerate development and good governance. He credited the Prime Minister's leadership for India's progress towards becoming a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047, emphasising that development means quality education, clean water for every household, opportunities for youth, and an inclusive society where no one is left behind.
The Defence Minister also referred to the renaming of several markets in the Cantonment, replacing British-era names with those of Indian freedom fighters and national figures. Royal Artillery Bazar is now Ekta Bazar, British Cavalry Bazar has been renamed Uda Devi Bazar, and British Infantry Bazar is now Matadin Valmiki Bazar. Another British Infantry Bazar has been named Mangal Pandey Bazar, while Kanedy Market has been renamed Atal Bihari Vajpayee Market. Singh said the move seeks to connect future generations with India's heritage.
The event was attended by UP Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Minister of State Asim Arun, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Command Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, and other senior officials from the defence forces and the state government.
