A man in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow helped his wife marry her former lover after she left her marital home and declined to return to him, in a sequence of events that has drawn attention in the Malihabad area where the two live.
The woman had been married to a PRD jawan for about a year. She left her home four days ago and travelled to Hardoi with her former lover, prompting her family to file a missing person complaint. Police traced her location and found her with the man.
Both were brought back, and a discussion was held in the presence of their families. The woman told the police and her relatives that she did not wish to continue living with her husband and wanted to be with her former lover.
According to the family, the woman and her former lover had studied at the same school and were in a relationship before her marriage. She had married the PRD jawan under family pressure but had remained in contact with her former boyfriend.
In the end, the husband decided against forcing her to stay with him and agreed to respect her decision. After the necessary formalities and with the consent of both sides, the woman and her former lover were married at a local temple according to Hindu rituals. The couple exchanged garlands and walked seven rounds around the sacred fire.
The PRD jawan then sent his wife off with her former lover. The episode has become a talking point locally, with the husband's decision to honour his wife's choice also drawing notice.
