France, South Korea to Host Global Film Summit on AI and Industry Challenges

France and South Korea are set to lead a one-day international summit next week focused on the film industry's response to artificial intelligence, competition from social media, and funding shortages.

The event, named the Lumière Summit after French cinema pioneers Auguste and Louis Lumière, will be co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung. It is scheduled for Monday in the hilltop village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, near the French Riviera.

Organizers said the summit will bring together representatives from major Hollywood studios, including Disney and Netflix, the talent agency CAA, and the technology industry. Participants from more than 55 countries are expected to attend.

The discussions will center on how the entertainment industry can embrace technological change while protecting the role of creators. Sessions will also explore new financial models and ways to reach audiences, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

The French government views the summit as an opportunity to highlight the country's strengths in cinema. South Korea, meanwhile, has gained significant international cultural influence through its K-pop groups and critically acclaimed films.

In a briefing on Thursday, organizers said the summit aims to offer a platform where governments, companies, and cultural institutions can develop practical responses to the rapid changes affecting the industry.
