Hollywood actor Lupita Nyong'o has paid tribute to her late Black Panther co-star Chadwick Boseman on the sixth anniversary of his death. Boseman, who became a global icon for his portrayal of T'Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, passed away in 2020 at the age of 43 after a private battle with colon cancer.
Nyong'o, who played Nakia, T'Challa's love interest in the film, took to Instagram on Saturday to share a picture of herself with Boseman. Accompanying the photo was a poignant message urging her followers to appreciate the people in their lives.
"Hold on to those you love who love you back. Tell them you love them. Show them you love them. You'll miss them when they're gone," she wrote.
Boseman's death was announced via a post on his official Instagram account in August 2020. His team later revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, which eventually progressed to stage IV. Despite his illness, the actor continued to work diligently, completing several films during his treatment.
Beyond his superhero role, Boseman earned critical acclaim for portraying historical figures, including Jackie Robinson in 42, Thurgood Marshall in Marshall, and James Brown in Get On Up. His final performance in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom earned him a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor at the 93rd Academy Awards.
His last Marvel performance was as the voice of T'Challa in the animated series What If...?, which was released after his death.
