Hyun Bin, Jung Woosung return for darker 'Made in Korea' Season 2

The cast and crew of the Disney+ series "Made in Korea" Season 2 gathered at the Conrad Seoul on Tuesday to present the upcoming season to the media. The event saw the return of lead actors Hyun Bin, Jung Woosung, and Woo Dohwan, alongside co-stars Cha Hee, Roh Jaewon, Jung Sung-il, Won Ji-an, and Seo Eun-soo, with director Woo Minho presiding.

Season 2 finds Hyun Bin's character, Baek Kitae, elevated to the role of deputy director of the Korea Central Intelligence Agency. His power and wealth are built on a foundation of underworld connections and a drug-trafficking enterprise. Jung Woosung reprises his role as Jang Geonyoung, a former prosecutor who was framed and imprisoned at the end of the first season, returning with a thirst for revenge. Woo Dohwan is also back as Baek Kihyun, Kitae's younger brother.

Director Woo Minho explained that the new season is set against the backdrop of the final weeks of 1979, a period of significant historical importance in Korea. He noted that while films like "The Man Standing Next" and "12.12: The Day" have depicted this era from the perspective of key historical figures, this series deliberately takes a different approach. The narrative will focus on fictional characters on the periphery of these major events, offering a distinct viewpoint on the same historical moment.

Hyun Bin acknowledged the pressure that comes with a sequel following the positive reception of Season 1. However, he expressed confidence that the groundwork laid in the first season allows for a more immersive experience. He described Season 2 as a single, continuous story that unfolds from start to finish, in contrast to the first season which required time to establish characters and situations. This narrative structure, he believes, will allow viewers to become more deeply absorbed in the story.

"Made in Korea" Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on September 9.
