Madhya Pradesh to Give School Students 12-Digit APAAR ID for Academic Records
Madhya Pradesh will issue a 12-digit APAAR ID to every school student, integrating all academic information into a single digital identity.
School students in Madhya Pradesh will be issued a 12-digit APAAR ID, a unique digital identity designed to hold their academic records, the state's School Education Department has announced.
The department said unique IDs have already been created for 78.5 per cent of students in the state, with roughly one crore IDs generated so far. Every student will eventually receive one, it added.
The APAAR ID — Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry — is intended to keep a child's educational details stored securely in digital form. All information related to a student will be consolidated under the 12-digit identifier.
The system is part of the Centre's 'One Nation, One Student ID' programme, which is aligned with the National Education Policy of 2020.
According to official information, the ID allows students to accumulate and preserve their academic achievements, making it easier to move between institutions for further studies. It is also meant to simplify credit recognition and transfer from the school level onwards, smoothing academic progression and the recognition of prior learning.
The department shared the rollout on its official social media handle, stating that students in the state would have a unique ID similar to Aadhaar and that all their information would be integrated into the 12-digit APAAR ID.
