The controversy relates to Mr. Annamalai's claim that Thevar, in 1956, had warned of performing a 'blood abhishekam' for the Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple deity if atheists continued to insult theists. The remark had triggered a political row and led to the registration of a case against the BJP leader.
Mr. Annamalai moved the High Court seeking to have the case quashed, arguing that his statement was based on historical references and did not amount to an offence.
