Madrasa teacher gets life term for assaulting 13-year-old boy in Rangareddy

A special court in Rangareddy district has sentenced a 30-year-old madrasa teacher to life imprisonment for the sexual assault of a 13-year-old boy, in a case that surfaced after the child fell ill and was sent home.

The Fast Track Special Judge for Trial and Disposal of Rape and POCSO Act Cases at L.B. Nagar convicted Mohammed Munawar Hussain, a teacher at a madrasa in Mamidipally village. Along with the life term, the court imposed a fine of ₹25,500 on him and directed that ₹2 lakh be paid to the victim as compensation.

The offence came to light on December 26, 2024, when the boy, a student at the madrasa, was taken home after he fell unwell. He then told his mother that the teacher had sexually assaulted him and threatened him, and that a similar incident had allegedly occurred two days earlier.

The mother passed on the information to the boy's father, who approached the Pahadishareef police on January 4, 2025, seeking action against the accused. A case was registered under Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 5(f)(l) and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

The conviction and sentence were delivered on Tuesday, September 29.
