Mahananda Express Derails Near Bihar's Arrah Station, No Injuries Reported
The engine and two coaches of the Delhi-bound Sikkim Mahananda Express derailed near Arrah station in Bihar on Sunday. No injuries were reported.
A Delhi-bound passenger train derailed near Arrah railway station in Bihar early on Sunday morning, causing disruption to rail services on the route. The incident occurred at approximately 4:12 a.m. when the Sikkim Mahananda Express (15483), travelling from Alipurduar Junction to Delhi, was departing platform number two.
The train's engine, along with its SLR (luggage-cum-brake van) and H-1 coach, jumped the tracks on the up line, roughly 200 metres from the station. Despite the severity of the derailment, railway officials confirmed that no passengers or crew members sustained injuries.
Preliminary findings suggest a technical fault may have caused the train's signal to shift towards the Sasaram line, leading the locomotive to proceed in the wrong direction and derail. Railway personnel arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported and initiated rescue and restoration operations.
Crews worked to re-rail the three affected units and reassemble the train. A technical team is currently at the site, inspecting the track, signalling systems, and other infrastructure to determine the exact cause of the malfunction. Authorities are also investigating how the signal shifted and why the train continued forward.
Train movement on the affected section has been temporarily halted while restoration work is underway. Railway officials stated that efforts are being made on a war footing to clear the disruption and resume normal operations as soon as the track is deemed safe.
