Woman Loses Scalp as Hair Catches in Ferris Wheel at Yavatmal Fair
A 25-year-old woman suffered severe injuries after her hair was caught in the bearing of a spinning ferris wheel at a fair in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district.
A woman was seriously injured after her hair became entangled in the machinery of a ferris wheel at a fair in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, with a large portion of her scalp torn away by the force of the spinning ride.
The incident occurred on Friday at a fair held in the Mahagaon taluka of the district to mark the 'Tanha Pola' festival. The one-day fair is organised annually, and draws a large number of women and children from surrounding villages who come to seek blessings at the Puneshwar Mahadev temple.
The woman has been identified as 25-year-old Bali Maroti Talikote, a resident of Phulsawangi, who was among those visiting the fair. She was riding the giant wheel when the accident took place.
As the ride picked up speed, her hair got caught in the rotating bearing located behind her seat. The wheel continued to turn rapidly, pulling hard on her hair and tearing away a significant part of her scalp. She cried out in pain, drawing the attention of other fairgoers, who panicked at the sight of her covered in blood.
The incident triggered chaos at the fairground, prompting police personnel stationed there to act. Assistant Police Inspector Sunil Ambhure and Police Constable Suhas Kayte reached the spot and, along with local residents, brought the spinning ride to a halt.
The woman was then safely brought down from the ride, averting what could have been a larger tragedy, and was taken to hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The accident has brought attention to questions about the safety standards followed for amusement rides at temporary fairs.
