Maharashtra Family Celebrates Birth of Daughter After Five Generations

In Maharashtra's Beed district, the Dahifale family has reason for unprecedented joy: the birth of a baby girl, the first in their lineage in nearly two centuries. The family, spanning five generations, welcomed the newborn with a grand celebration that drew the local community together.

The baby, named Gargi, was brought home from the hospital with her mother in a flower-adorned chariot. The procession was accompanied by the rhythmic beats of drums and cymbals, creating a festive atmosphere that locals thoroughly enjoyed. The family treated the newborn like a princess, marking the occasion as a long-awaited and historic moment.

Gargi's grandfather, Limbaji Dahifale, whose native village is Kolwadi in Latur district, became emotional while speaking about the birth. He expressed that having a daughter in the family was a matter of great fortune, fulfilling a regret that had persisted for generations. Her grandmother, Surekha Dahifale, echoed the sentiment, saying that Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity, had come to their home.

Gargi's father noted that the joy of having a daughter is distinct from that of a son, adding that daughters share a special bond with their fathers. He vowed to raise his daughter with utmost care, comparing her to a delicate flower.

The family stated that the elaborate celebration was also intended to send a positive message to society: that the birth of a daughter is a moment of happiness and pride, deserving of the same fanfare as the birth of a son.
