Maharashtra FDA Suspends Licences of Blinkit Outlet, Mumbai Hotel Over Hygiene Lapses
Maharashtra FDA suspends licences of a Blinkit outlet, a Kurla hotel, and a Malad store for hygiene violations; dairy raid destroys unsafe milk.
Maharashtra's food safety regulator has suspended licences of several food outlets and a dairy facility after inspections revealed serious hygiene violations, including pest infestations, unsealed dairy products, and tampering with official seals.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended the state food licence of Blink Commerce Private Limited, which operates the quick-commerce platform Blinkit, at its Akola outlet. The action followed a re-inspection that found hygiene and storage violations at the premises.
In Mumbai, the FDA suspended the registration certificate of Gulzar Mohmmadi Hotel in Kurla (West) after an inspection uncovered severe structural filth and cockroach infestations. The hotel scored only 24 out of 88 points, a failing grade.
Separately, a popular outlet in Malad West had its food licence suspended after inspectors found unhygienic conditions, unsealed dairy products, and pest infestations at the site.
In Miraj taluka, the FDA raided a dairy facility and seized 151 litres of unsafe milk worth Rs 6,488, which was destroyed. During the raid, officials also discovered an attempt to illegally tamper with official department seals on a cream separator at the facility.
These actions come amid heightened scrutiny of food joints and quick-commerce stores by the regulator. Earlier, a rat was allegedly spotted inside an ice cream freezer at a Blinkit store in Kalyan, Thane, raising food safety concerns and prompting calls for stricter enforcement.
