Maharashtra FDA suspends licences of 10 establishments, including a Swiggy Instamart dark store in Mumbai, over food safety violations; seizes Rs 1.36 crore worth of sweets and dairy products.
The Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Monday suspended the licences of ten food establishments across the state for violating food safety norms, with a Swiggy Instamart dark store in south Mumbai among the premises flagged for severe hygiene failures.
At the Swinsta ENT Private Limited facility in Ballard Estate, inspectors reported seeing a live rat in the handling area. Several 10-kg rice bags had been gnawed open by rodents, with grain spilling across contaminated flooring. Rodent droppings were also found in key storage zones, and a large-scale cockroach infestation was observed directly on food articles.
Live flies were spotted inside food storage carts, while dead insects, dirt and heavy ice accumulation were found in refrigeration units, the regulator said.
Other establishments whose licences were suspended include Sadguru Sweets and Farsan Mart in Malad, Acculogicx Supply Chain Solutions Pvt. Ltd. — a warehouse operating for Amazon — Suleman Usman Mithaiwala on Mohammed Ali Road, Jain Sweet & Bhepuri House LLP, and Nice Enterprises in Chembur.
As part of its festive-season crackdown, the FDA has seized suspected adulterated and unhygienic khoya, mawa, peda, ghee, oil, barfi, dried apricots and raisins, jaggery, sweets and other dairy products worth Rs 1.36 crore from across Maharashtra. Separately, 1,868 kg of turmeric powder valued at Rs 6.53 lakh was seized from Miraj.
