Health group: Maharashtra Bill silent on private hospital treatment rates

A health rights campaign has raised concerns that a proposed Maharashtra Bill does not address the regulation of treatment rates at private hospitals. The group argues that without such provisions, the legislation may fall short of ensuring affordable and transparent healthcare pricing for patients.

As part of its ongoing efforts, the campaign is reaching out to all 21 MLAs who serve on the Joint Legislative Committee (JLC) examining the Bill. The objective is to press for amendments or clarifications that would bring private hospital charges under a regulatory framework.

The campaign is also demanding that the state Health Minister convene a statewide consultation. This meeting, it says, should bring together organisations and networks working across the health sector to discuss the Bill's provisions and its potential impact on healthcare access.

By seeking dialogue with lawmakers and civil society, the group hopes to influence the legislative process and ensure that patient interests are adequately protected in the final version of the Bill.
