A 19-year-old student in Satara, Maharashtra, died after falling from her hostel's third floor. Police recovered a suicide note and are probing the incident.
A 19-year-old college student died late Wednesday night after allegedly jumping from the third floor of a girls' hostel in Maharashtra's Satara district. The incident took place at the Yashwantrao Chavan Science College, where the victim was a second-year student of Food and Technology.
The deceased has been identified as Srishti Bhanudas Biramane. She was residing in the college's girls' hostel at the time of the tragedy.
According to police, a handwritten suicide note was found among her belongings and has been taken into custody for investigation. However, the exact reason behind her death has not yet been officially established.
Authorities said that shortly before the incident, Srishti told others she was going to the bathroom and instead went to the third floor of the hostel building. She then allegedly jumped, sustaining severe injuries. She was rushed for medical treatment but died before reaching the hospital.
The police are also looking into recent events at the hostel, including a complaint about objectionable words written on a bathroom wall. Following that complaint, the hostel committee had begun questioning students, and there were discussions about calling the parents of those involved.
An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the student's death.
