Malaysia Recovers Remains of All Five in Flying Doctor Helicopter Crash

Malaysian authorities on Wednesday recovered the remains of all five people who were aboard a 'flying doctor' service helicopter that crashed a day earlier on the island of Borneo. The helicopter went down near the Long Lellang airstrip in northern Sarawak, Malaysia's largest state, which is known for its vast rural and remote areas where access to healthcare is often difficult. The flying doctor service is used to transport medical teams to these isolated communities.

Officials said formal identification of the remains—of the pilot and four medical workers—has begun. The cause of the crash has not been immediately disclosed, and it is unclear whether weather conditions played a role. In recent weeks, Sarawak has experienced haze from forest fires in neighboring Indonesia.

An investigation into the incident is underway. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim offered condolences and urged the public to avoid speculation while authorities examine the circumstances. He assured that the government would provide all necessary assistance and support to the victims' families.

The Sarawak state government has announced cash assistance for the families and has pledged to cover the school fees of the victims' children.
