
Mamata Banerjee's Niece Brishti Mukherjee Dies By Suicide in Bengal's Birbhum
Brishti Mukherjee, 28, niece of Mamata Banerjee, died by suicide at her Birbhum home. Police investigating.
Brishti Mukherjee, the 28-year-old daughter of Mamata Banerjee's cousin Nihar Mukherjee, has died by suicide at her residence in West Bengal's Birbhum district.
Her body was discovered hanging on the first floor of her home in Kusumba village around 9 am on Tuesday. The Rampurhat police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Family members stated that Mukherjee had been battling depression for the past several years and was undergoing treatment. Reports also indicate she had faced allegations related to the primary teacher recruitment scam and had filed for divorce with her husband.
The body has been sent to Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination. A police officer said the cause of death will be established after the post-mortem and other procedural inquiries are completed.
