Mammootty Takes Fourth Best Actor National Award as 72nd Ceremony Moves to Gujarat
Mammootty won his fourth Best Actor National Award for Bramayugam at the 72nd National Film Awards, held at Ekta Nagar near the Statue of Unity.
Veteran actor Mammootty collected his fourth National Award for Best Actor at the 72nd National Film Awards, where the audience rose to its feet in recognition of his work in the Malayalam film Bramayugam.
The ceremony took place at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat, close to the Statue of Unity — the first time the National Film Awards have been staged outside New Delhi.
Mammootty was honoured for his performance as Kodumon Potti in Rahul Sadasivan's Bramayugam, a film noted for its black-and-white imagery and widely praised for its storytelling and acting.
The win extends a long record at the awards for the Malayalam star, who had previously won Best Actor three times. His first came in 1989 for Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Mathilukal, followed by a second in 1990 for Ponthan Mada and Vidheyan. His third Best Actor honour arrived in 1994 for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
This year the Best Actor award was shared with Kartik Aaryan, recognised for his performance in Chandu Champion.
Yami Gautam took Best Actress for Article 370, which also won Best Feature Film, while Rajkumar Periasamy was named Best Director for Amaran. Kalki 2898 AD was named Best Feature Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
In the language categories, Srikanth was named Best Hindi Film, Raayan won Best Tamil Film, Feminichi Fathima was named Best Malayalam Film and Committee Kurrollu won Best Telugu Film.
