Mammootty returns to Kochi with fourth National Award for Bramayugam
Mammootty has returned to Kochi after winning his fourth National Film Award for Best Actor for Bramayugam at the 72nd National Film Awards in Gujarat.
Veteran actor Mammootty arrived in Kochi on Wednesday after receiving his fourth National Film Award for Best Actor, honoured for his performance in the Malayalam film Bramayugam at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony held in Gujarat.
Fans and police personnel greeted him with flower bouquets at the Kochi airport. Speaking to the media on arrival, Mammootty said he was delighted to receive the award and dedicated it to Malayalam cinema and its audiences. He described the ceremony in Gujarat as a new experience and said he had seen the Statue of Unity, which he found impressive.
The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony took place on September 22 at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat, near the Statue of Unity. It marked the first time the event was held outside New Delhi.
Mammootty was recognised for his portrayal of Kodumon Potti in Rahul Sadasivan's Bramayugam. He shared the Best Actor award with Kartik Aaryan, who was honoured for his work in Chandu Champion.
The latest win adds to Mammootty's three previous Best Actor National Awards. His first came in 1989 for Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Mathilukal. He won again in 1990 for Ponthan Mada and Vidheyan, and took his third honour in 1994 for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
At this year's ceremony, Yami Gautam won Best Actress for Article 370, while Rajkumar Periasamy was named Best Director for Amaran. Article 370 was named Best Feature Film, and Kalki 2898 AD received the award for Best Feature Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
Among the other winners, Srikanth was named Best Hindi Film, Raayan won Best Tamil Film, Feminichi Fathima was named Best Malayalam Film and Committee Kurrollu won Best Telugu Film.
