Warangal's Mamnoor airport foundation likely in December
Foundation stone for Mamnoor airport likely in December; tenders in two weeks. CM Reddy seeks expedited work, MRO at Adilabad.
The foundation stone for the proposed airport at Mamnoor near Warangal is expected to be laid in December, according to assurances given by Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
The two met in New Delhi on Wednesday, where the Chief Minister requested that work on establishing new airports at Mamnoor and Adilabad be expedited. The Union Ministry was urged to accelerate procedures, particularly for Mamnoor, as the State government has already completed land acquisition for the project.
Tenders for the air transportation infrastructure project are expected to be invited within two weeks and finalised by December, the Minister assured.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also reiterated a request for facilities such as cargo and passenger terminals, as well as maintenance, repair and overhauling (MRO) services, at the proposed Adilabad airport. The Civil Aviation Ministry was asked to hold discussions with the Defence Ministry to resolve runway-related issues at that site.
On the tourism front, Mr. Reddy urged the Union Minister to promote heli-tourism in the State to accelerate sector development. Officials of the Union Ministry informed the Chief Minister that a project report on the landing of sea planes on Hussainsagar lake would be submitted to the State government within two weeks.
