Man Hacks Father-in-Law to Death in Damoh Over Wife Suspicion

A man allegedly killed his 65-year-old father-in-law with an axe in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district early Monday, following a dispute rooted in suspicions about his wife's character. The accused also injured his sister-in-law when she tried to intervene.

The incident took place around 4 am in Pipraudha village under the Batiagarh police station area. Superintendent of Police Anand Kaladgi identified the accused as Ramprasad Raikwar, who had been harbouring suspicions about his wife Rashmi, leading to frequent arguments between the couple.

According to police, Ramprasad was staying at his in-laws' house after one such quarrel. He attacked Ramesh Raikwar with an axe while the latter was asleep, killing him on the spot. He then fled the scene, and a search has been launched to apprehend him.

The victim's eldest daughter, who was awakened by the noise, attempted to stop the assault but was also attacked. She has been admitted to the Batiagarh Health Centre for treatment.

Family members told police that Ramprasad and Rashmi had earlier worked in Mumbai, where his suspicions persisted. After the situation escalated, Rashmi returned to her parents' home in Pipraudha a few days ago on her family's advice, and Ramprasad followed her there. He reportedly quarrelled with his in-laws on Sunday under the influence of alcohol and left, returning around 4 am to commit the crime.
