Mani Ratnam's next titled Inji Vellam, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi
Mani Ratnam's upcoming romance drama is titled Inji Vellam, featuring Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi. The first look was revealed on September 7.
Acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam's next project has been officially titled Inji Vellam. The announcement was made on Monday, September 7, by his production banner, Madras Talkies, through a first-look motion poster on social media.
The poster showcases the film's lead pair, Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi, in a warm embrace. While details about the plot and the rest of the cast remain undisclosed, reports indicate that a significant portion of the film was shot in Kolkata.
Inji Vellam marks another collaboration between Mani Ratnam and Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman. The technical crew includes cinematographer Avik Mukhopadhayay and editor Sreekar Prasad. The film is produced by Subaskaran, Mani Ratnam, and Siva Ananth under the banners of Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. It is scheduled to hit theatres in January 2027.
This project follows Mani Ratnam's previous directorial venture, Thug Life (2025), which starred Kamal Haasan but did not perform well at the box office.
Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi has a busy slate ahead, including Slum Dog directed by Puri Jagannadh, a film with director Balaji Tharaneedharan, Pocket Novel by Thiagarajan Kumararaja, and Farzi 2 from Raj & DK. He is also hosting the ongoing season of the reality show Bigg Boss Tamil. Sai Pallavi's upcoming projects include the highly anticipated Ramayana, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, and OM: Chapter 1, which features Dhanush, Mammootty, and Sreeleela.
