Manipur Musician Dies After Assault in Delhi; 8 Held

A 54-year-old musician from Manipur died after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of men in New Delhi's Kilokari area. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday when the victim, identified as C Vikram Singh, objected to the men drinking alcohol and creating a disturbance outside his apartment.

Police said Singh, who belonged to the Meitei community and had been living in Kilokari village for several years, was attacked with blows and punches. His son rushed him to Holy Family Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Sunlight Colony police station received a PCR call about the incident. Following an investigation, police arrested seven men and apprehended one juvenile in connection with the case. The accused have been identified as Bharat Kumar (19), Pramod (26), Ramzan Khan (22), Deepanshu (21), Mohan Vishwakarma (32), Vijay (36), Mannu (26), and one juvenile. All are reported to be workers at different dhabas and food stalls.

The North East Students Society, Delhi University (NESSDU) has condoled Singh's death, describing him as a respected musician. The body called the attack a "senseless act of violence" and urged authorities to ensure a swift and thorough investigation.

Singh was also remembered as a renowned guitarist and a pioneer of Western music in Manipur. Police said the investigation into the circumstances leading to the assault is underway.
