Manipur Naga MLAs Urge Amit Shah to Act Against Kuki Groups

Eight of Manipur's nine Naga legislators have formally petitioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah, describing the state's situation as "critical and volatile" and urging "decisive and bold action" to prevent further deterioration. The letter, confirmed by Deputy Chief Minister Loshii Dikho, alleges that Kuki-Zo leaders and militant groups were involved in attacks on Naga civilians.

The legislators have submitted five specific demands. These include the arrest of Kuki-Zo leaders who allegedly publicly claimed responsibility for the killing and dismemberment of six Naga civilians. They have also specifically named Thangboi Kipgen of the Kuki National Front-P (KNF-P), accusing him of involvement in the killings.

In a related demand, the MLAs have called for action against Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, alleging that her office has been colluding with the Kuki militant group reportedly led by her husband, Thangboi Kipgen.

Furthermore, the letter calls for the immediate abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with all Kuki militant groups. The legislators cited what they described as repeated violations of the agreement and continued attacks on civilians.

Nungba MLA Diganglung Gangmei was the only Naga legislator who did not sign the letter. A close aide said Gangmei has not yet made a decision on the matter.
