Manoj Bajpayee transforms into Mahatma Gandhi for Sudhir Mishra's historical drama

Manoj Bajpayee is set to portray Mahatma Gandhi for the first time in a new historical drama directed by Sudhir Mishra. The actor's first look from the project was released on Sunday, revealing a dramatic transformation that departs significantly from his previous on-screen appearances.

The film is based on a relatively obscure 21-day period from India's freedom struggle. Details about the narrative and other aspects of the project remain under wraps, with the makers yet to announce an official title or release date.

Sudhir Mishra, known for acclaimed works such as 'Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi' and 'Dharavi', brings his decades of experience in Hindi cinema to this venture. The film also features Saurabh Shukla in a significant role.

The project is produced by Anubhav Sinha and Narendra Hirawat under the Benaras Mediaworks banner, with NH Studioz presenting it.

Separately, Bajpayee is gearing up for the release of 'Last Man in Tower', an adaptation of Aravind Adiga's novel. Directed by Ben Rekhi and produced by Rana Daggubati's Spirit Media, the film also stars Boman Irani and Divya Dutta. It marks the first on-screen collaboration between Bajpayee and Irani and is scheduled to hit Indian cinemas on September 11.
