Masked Group Blocks Traffic at Dover Ferry Port, Causing Major Delays

A group of masked individuals blocked the entrance to the Port of Dover on Saturday, bringing traffic to a standstill at Britain's busiest ferry terminal. Police confirmed they were engaging with the protesters, while port authorities stated that all movement in and out had been stopped due to the ongoing public order incident.

Social media footage showed several dozen men dressed in black with their faces covered, standing across a major road near the port. The National Highways agency reported that the disruption created a traffic jam stretching four miles, with delays of up to 45 minutes.

Despite the roadblock, ferry operator P&O Ferries said its services between Dover and Calais were running on schedule. The company added that passengers who missed their booked crossings would be accommodated on the next available departure.

Dover, located roughly 70 miles southeast of London, has previously been a focal point for anti-immigrant demonstrations, particularly concerning migrants crossing the English Channel in small boats. The issue has been amplified by some political figures, including Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, who recently described asylum seekers as "an invasion."

The Labour government has pointed to enhanced cross-border law enforcement cooperation with France, noting that small boat crossings have fallen by over 40% compared to last year.

Mike Tapp, the Labour MP for Dover, condemned the action, calling the demonstrators "idiots coming to Dover to cause disruption." In a social media post, he suggested the protesters were unaware that crossings had dropped significantly and urged them to "go home, enjoy your weekend/get a job."
