Search on for Woman in Death of Off-Duty Massachusetts Officer

Authorities in Worcester, Massachusetts, are searching for a woman in connection with the death of an off-duty police officer, an incident they are treating as a domestic matter.

The officer, a 31-year veteran of the force, was found dead at a home in the city on Tuesday. Police have identified the woman they are seeking as 58-year-old Karen Solomon. Officials have not disclosed the nature of her relationship with the officer, who has not been named by police.

Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier and Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said at a news conference that local, state, and federal agencies are involved in the search. They cautioned that Solomon may be armed.

Early declined to provide further details, citing regulations surrounding domestic violence cases. Police were seen distributing flyers with Solomon's photo to drivers in the area on Wednesday morning.

Thomas Duffy, president of the local police union, identified the deceased officer as Kurt Solomon. He described him as a dedicated and reliable colleague whose loss is being deeply felt across the department.

"When you serve 31 years with an individual, you become more than co-workers. You become family, and today we lost a member of our family," Duffy told reporters.

Karen Solomon is a co-founder of First H.E.L.P., an organization dedicated to supporting first responders who have died by suicide and addressing mental health challenges within the community. In a statement, the group expressed condolences to the officer's family and colleagues, adding that the circumstances of the investigation are an active matter for law enforcement.
