Netflix Sets October 27 Release for Matthew Perry Docuseries
Netflix's Matthew Perry docuseries, The One About Matthew Perry, premieres October 27, featuring his sister and family archive.
Netflix has announced that its upcoming docuseries on the late actor Matthew Perry, titled 'The One About Matthew Perry,' will begin streaming on October 27. The project is set to offer a personal look at the actor's life, drawing on never-before-seen photos and videos from the Perry family's private collection.
A key voice in the series will be Perry's sister, Mia Perry Bowick. Her participation is expected to provide an intimate perspective on the actor, who was widely known for his role as Chandler Bing on the popular sitcom 'Friends.'
According to the streaming platform, the series will trace Perry's trajectory from a rising comedic talent to a globally beloved figure. It will also address candid details about his personal struggles, aiming to honor the legacy of honesty and advocacy he left behind.
Mary Robertson, known for directing 'Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV' and producing 'Framing Britney Spears,' is directing the series. Robertson will also executive produce through her Maxine Productions banner at Sony Pictures Television. Other executive producers include Lisa Kalikow, Eli Holzman, and Aaron Saidman, with Lora Moftah serving as co-executive producer and Jessica Call as producer.
In a statement, Perry Bowick shared her thoughts on participating in the project. She noted that it took time for her to feel ready to share her memories and what it was like to love her brother through the complexities of his life. She emphasized that the series aims to portray him as a whole person, not just as his famous character or his struggles with addiction. She described Perry as having a beautiful heart and a generous spirit, adding that he could still make people laugh and feel loved even in his darkest moments.
Perry passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54 due to an accidental ketamine overdose.
