Matthew Rhys Celebrates Emmy Win for 'Widow's Bay' with Welsh Pride

Matthew Rhys was in a celebratory mood after his comedy series "Widow's Bay" won the Emmy for outstanding comedy series, saying he expected the festivities to be "long, varied, and I hope times wild."

The actor, who was in Los Angeles for the ceremony on 14 September 2026, posed for a group photo with his fellow winners: Jeff Hiller, Dale Dickey, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, Stephen Root, Kate O'Flynn and Neil Casey.

Reflecting on the win, Rhys spoke about his Welsh background. "I'm from a small country and I'm glad we kind of, you we get moments to kind of put our flag in the map and say we punch higher than our weight sometimes in Wales," he said.

Rhys arrived at the Emmys with his wife, the actor Keri Russell, who did not win in her category. Asked how she would react, he joked that he had bet heavily on himself and that the children had run a book on the outcome, with him as odds-on favourite.

"It was going to be a rough week for her and I'm sorry. I don't know if I am to be perfectly honest," he said. "You know, she's always the class act. She sends her fellow nominees Gloria Steinem quotes about being linked and not judged. I'm the one going woo hooo! She's always really the winner, if I'm perfectly honest."
