Meghwal Visits NLSIU Amid Documentary Row; ABVP Seeks Cancellation
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal visited NLSIU Bengaluru as ABVP submitted a memorandum seeking cancellation of a postponed documentary screening.
Union Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal visited the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, on Wednesday, September 16, as a controversy continued over the planned screening of a documentary on jailed activist Umar Khalid.
After the campus meeting, a delegation of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Bengaluru, called on the Minister at Lok Bhavan and handed over a memorandum concerning the screening.
In its representation, the students' body demanded that the postponed screening be cancelled outright. It also sought an inquiry into the organisers of such programmes and a high-level probe into the university administration for having granted permission for the event.
The delegation further asked that the university be directed to provide students with the basic amenities and facilities they require.
Students at NLSIU said the Minister's visit had been scheduled in advance, on an invitation from students and faculty associated with the Legal Services Clinic (LSC), and predated the row over the documentary.
