Mehbooba Mufti urges 'secular-minded' people to join Sept 29 Jantar Mantar protest
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has appealed to 'secular-minded' people to join a September 29 protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar against alleged injustices.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti has called on "secular-minded" citizens to join a protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on September 29, describing the demonstration as an effort to safeguard the country's democracy, brotherhood and composite culture.
The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said the protest is being organised by the Monitoring Committee for Indian Muslims and is scheduled to run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
In a video message posted on her X account, Ms. Mufti alleged that mosques, shrines and churches are being demolished across the country with considerable harshness. She also claimed that names of Opposition supporters, secular-minded individuals and Muslims in particular are being struck from voter lists as they are prepared.
She said the Monitoring Committee had decided to hold the September 29 demonstration at Jantar Mantar to voice opposition to "all these injustices".
Appealing for public participation, Ms. Mufti urged secular-minded people to help protect the nation's democracy, its brotherhood and what she described as the Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb, or composite culture, of the country.
