Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra to Direct Vikrant Massey in a Love Story Before Karna

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has locked Vikrant Massey for a small-town love story, to be shot before his ambitious Karna epic with Salman Khan begins in 2027.

Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is set to direct actor Vikrant Massey in a small-town love story, a project he plans to complete before moving on to his much larger epic, Karna. The film, backed by Excel Entertainment, has been in development for five years and is scheduled to begin production in August 2027.

Mehra is currently in the preparation phase for Karna, a two-part war epic based on the conflicted Mahabharata character. Salman Khan has been confirmed for the titular role. While pre-production on that ambitious project continues, the director has chosen to first tell a more intimate story.

Sources indicate that the love story is a quick 30-day shoot, a narrative Mehra has carried with him for some time. The plan allows him to deliver this smaller film while the technical team and Excel Entertainment continue their detailed groundwork for Karna, which is expected to be a long-term commitment.

This scheduling approach lets Mehra balance a personal, romantic project with the extensive demands of a large-scale historical epic, keeping both productions on track for their respective timelines.
