Meta unveils Muse, a personal AI agent for everyday tasks
Meta's new AI agent, Muse, helps users with daily tasks and long-term planning, with a focus on privacy and safety.
Meta has introduced Muse, a personal artificial intelligence agent designed to assist adults aged 18 and over with daily tasks such as scheduling, shopping, and turning long-term goals into actionable plans. The agent is currently available only in the United States.
Muse operates through a dedicated app or via WhatsApp, and can handle simple requests like sending emails or booking travel, as well as more complex objectives such as creating a year-long exercise regimen or setting up a new business. According to Meta, once a user shares a goal, Muse helps develop a personalized plan, coordinates time and resources, and can autonomously advance the work—opening browsers, filling forms, and even negotiating on the user's behalf.
The company is highlighting the safety and privacy features of the agent, noting that it runs on a secure virtual machine that isolates both the agent and the user's data. This move comes as tech firms position AI agents as the next evolution beyond chatbots, which typically answer questions but do not take independent action.
Meta's launch aligns with CEO Mark Zuckerberg's broader vision of AI superintelligence accessible to everyone. In a recent essay, he described a future where personal agents work around the clock to improve relationships, health, career, and finances, freeing up time for users. However, whether consumers will embrace such proactive assistance remains an open question.
