Meta brings parental supervision to Threads across Asia-Pacific

Meta is rolling out parental supervision tools on Threads in Asia-Pacific, letting parents monitor usage, set daily limits and manage privacy settings for teens.

Meta has begun rolling out parental supervision on Threads across the Asia-Pacific region, extending to its text-based social platform a set of controls already available on its other apps. The tools, accessible through Meta's Family Centre, are aimed at giving parents and guardians greater visibility into how teenagers use the service.

Starting this week, parents in the region can see how much time their teen has spent on Threads each day over the previous week, along with the average daily usage for that period. They can also set daily time limits and block access on selected days and hours. According to the company, these limits apply to the total time spent on Threads when the platform is used across multiple devices.

The supervision features extend to privacy and content preferences as well. Parents can manage who is allowed to tag their teen in posts and approve certain privacy settings and sensitive content choices. They can also adjust sleep mode, which limits or blocks access to Threads at night; notifications are muted and auto-replies are enabled by default between 10 PM and 7 AM.

Meta said parents will have additional control over Teen Accounts, which come with built-in protections such as private accounts and limits on the content teens can see. "Beginning this week, parents can decide if teens under 16 can change any of these settings to be less strict," the company said, adding that parents will receive new insights and controls.

Supervision can be set up through Meta's Family Centre. The company said it will continue expanding its supervision tools so that parents can access controls and gain visibility into their teens' experiences across its apps in one place, and indicated that further controls and features will be added over time.
