Mexico Navy Rescues Two Fishermen Adrift on Cooler Box in Pacific

Mexican navy rescued two fishermen who drifted for five days on a cooler box in the Pacific, about 240 km off Chiapas.

Mexico's navy has rescued two fishermen who spent five days adrift in the Pacific Ocean, clinging to a large cooler box after their boat went missing. The men, aged 53 and 32, were found approximately 240 kilometers (149 miles) off the coast of the southern state of Chiapas.

The fishermen had last been in contact on August 14, after departing on a fishing trip. When they failed to return, a local fishing cooperative raised the alarm and requested assistance, prompting the navy to launch a search operation involving both vessels and aircraft.

Aerial footage captured the moment a military helicopter located the two men floating on the improvised raft. Navy personnel then approached in a vessel and pulled the fishermen aboard. Medical staff on the scene evaluated the pair before they were airlifted by helicopter to port for further medical attention.

Following their arrival on shore, the fishermen were reunited with their families. The navy's swift coordination with the fishing community was credited with the successful rescue.
