Amazon Prime Air Cargo Plane Crash in Miami Kills Five

A Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft operated by 21 Air for Amazon's Prime Air network crashed on Sunday at Miami International Airport, killing five people. The plane overran the runway while landing, struck several vehicles, and caught fire.

The incident adds to a grim list of recent fatal aviation accidents worldwide. In March 2026, an Air Canada Express regional jet collided with a fire truck while landing at New York's LaGuardia airport, killing the pilot and co-pilot and injuring dozens.

In 2025, an Air India flight to London crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing all but one of the 242 people on board and 19 others on the ground. A UPS cargo plane crashed near Louisville, Kentucky, killing all three crew and 12 on the ground. An American Airlines regional jet collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter near Washington, D.C., killing over 60 people.

In 2024, a Jeju Air flight crashed at Muan International Airport in South Korea, killing all 175 passengers and four crew. A Swiftair Boeing 737-400 freighter for DHL crashed near Vilnius, Lithuania, killing the captain. An Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer E190 crashed in Kazakhstan, killing 38, after being diverted from Russia; Azerbaijan's president attributed the damage to accidental ground fire. A Japan Airlines Airbus A350 collided with a Coast Guard aircraft at Tokyo's Haneda airport, killing five of six crew on the smaller plane, though all 379 aboard the JAL jet escaped.

Earlier disasters include a China Eastern Airlines crash in 2022 (132 dead), the 2020 shootdown of a Ukraine International Airlines flight by Iran's Revolutionary Guards (176 dead), the 2019 Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX crash (157 dead) and an Atlas Air 767 freighter crash in Texas (3 dead), the 2018 Lion Air 737 MAX crash (189 dead), and the 2014 Malaysia Airlines MH17 shootdown over Ukraine (298 dead) and MH370 disappearance (239 missing).
