Five Dead, Suspect Found Dead After Michigan Shooting Spree

Five people were killed and the suspect, Chad Hickman, was found dead in a wooded area after shootings at two Michigan homes.

A violent incident in rural Michigan has left five people dead and the suspected gunman dead, according to state police. The events unfolded across two homes and a wooded area in Missaukee County, roughly 169 miles northwest of Detroit.

Michigan State Police responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Friday. Upon arrival, officers discovered three people dead and a fourth person wounded, who was taken to a hospital. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Chad Hickman, had fled before law enforcement arrived.

While searching for Hickman, police found a fourth deceased individual at another home. The search eventually led officers to a wooded area where Hickman's vehicle was located. There, they discovered Hickman's body and the body of another person.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of death for any of the victims or the suspect, though the initial response was to a shooting. Lt. Ashley Miller described the situation as "heartbreaking for the community and challenging for the investigators involved."

The names and ages of the victims have not been released pending notification of their families. Police have asked the public to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
