Migrant worker dies after assault by four men in Chennai's Nolambur
A 62-year-old migrant worker from West Bengal was fatally assaulted by four inebriated men in Nolambur, Chennai, after he refused them a cigarette.
Chennai police have arrested four men in connection with the murder of a 62-year-old migrant worker in Nolambur on Saturday night. The victim, identified as N. Abjith Mondal, a native of West Bengal, was employed at a construction site in Gajalakshmi Nagar.
According to the Nolambur police, the incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. when the four accused, who were in an inebriated state and residents of the same locality, approached Mondal and demanded a cigarette. When he refused, a verbal altercation escalated, and the group allegedly picked up a wooden log from the ground and attacked him.
Mondal sustained severe injuries to his head and body. He was rushed to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital by local residents, where he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Sunday.
The police have arrested the four accused, identified as V. Vaseegaran (18), R. Ajay (18), S. Gokul Raj (18), and R. Sabari, in connection with the murder. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
