Minneapolis Officers Hailed for Bravery in Fatal Apartment Shooting

Minneapolis officials have commended the courage of police officers who responded to a deadly shooting at a downtown apartment building on Wednesday afternoon. The incident left two people dead, and the suspect was also killed, according to police.

Mayor Jacob Frey stated that while much about the shooting remains under investigation, the bravery of the responding officers is beyond question. He described how officers entered the building amid an active shooting, rescued victims, and helped transport approximately four people to the hospital, all while under fire themselves.

Two officers were struck by gunfire—one in the leg and another with two bullets to the abdomen. A third officer was also injured. All three are reported to be in stable condition at Hennepin County Medical Center. Police Sgt. Garrett Parten confirmed the officers' injuries during a press conference on Wednesday evening.

Police Chief Bill Peterson expressed his horror at the level of violence, but his statement was tempered by pride in his officers' actions. He noted that they responded without hesitation, placing themselves between the shooter and potential victims. "Their bravery is undeniable, and we owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude," he said.

The mayor stressed that the death toll could have been significantly higher without the officers' heroic intervention. He added that the entire block was affected as officers moved quickly from unit to unit to assist those in need. Both officials extended their thoughts to the victims, their families, and the broader community impacted by what they described as a senseless act of violence.
