Rapper Rapperiya Baalam Alleges Mirzapur: The Movie Used His Song Without Permission

Mirzapur: The Movie, which hit theatres on Friday, has found itself at the centre of a fresh controversy. Rajasthani rapper Rapperiya Baalam has alleged that his track 'Shoorveer' was used in the film without his permission or due credit.

In a series of Instagram posts, the artist expressed his disappointment, stating that the song was created as a tribute to the legendary warrior Maharana Pratap. He questioned the filmmakers' decision to place the track in a sequence that, according to him, glorifies the film's gangster characters.

"This song is dedicated to Maharana Pratap ji. We are using this song to glorify the villains in the movie. Is this right?" he asked, adding that the inclusion feels like an insult to Rajasthan and the historical figure.

Rapperiya Baalam clarified that he would have been open to collaboration had the team approached him directly. "If the Mirzapur team had approached me and said, 'Rapperiya bhai, we want to use your song,' we would have given them 10 ideas. But taking the song without permission is not right," he said.

The artist also raised questions about the licensing process, demanding to know who granted the rights for the track's use. He indicated that he would pursue necessary action, though he acknowledged the outpouring of support from listeners who recognised the song in the theatre.

As of now, the makers of the film, directed by Gurmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna, have not issued a public response to the allegations.
