Mirzapur: The Movie Nears Rs 200 Crore After Strong Second Weekend
Mirzapur: The Movie earned Rs 35.90 crore in its second weekend, pushing its India net collection to Rs 188.45 crore as it closes in on the Rs 200 crore club.
Mirzapur: The Movie has kept its box-office momentum going into its second weekend, adding Rs 35.90 crore and lifting its India net collection to Rs 188.45 crore for the Hindi version.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh noted that the film recorded double-digit earnings on both Saturday and Sunday. Its second-weekend split stood at Rs 9.50 crore on Friday, Rs 13.30 crore on Saturday and Rs 13.10 crore on Sunday. The first week had contributed Rs 152.55 crore.
With these figures, the film is now within striking distance of the Rs 200 crore mark. Adarsh observed that only three films have crossed Rs 200 crore in India net box-office collections this year so far — Dhurandhar 2, Border 2 and Hanuman Ansh — and that Mirzapur: The Movie is poised to become the fourth to reach the milestone.
The sequel's run has held steady despite the release of Haiwaan, which, according to Adarsh, has made no difference to the film's performance. Hanuman Ansh, meanwhile, continues to draw audiences and remains a leading choice among moviegoers. Adarsh pointed out that the two films are posting big numbers at the same time despite belonging to entirely different genres, which he described as a sign that good content can co-exist and thrive in theatres.
Mirzapur: The Movie continues the story of the popular franchise, bringing back Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi), Munna Bhaiya (Divyenndu) and Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal). The plot follows the contest for the Mirzapur throne as new contenders enter the fray.
Presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment, the film is directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna. It is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment, with Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani as co-producers. The film was released in theatres on September 4.
