MoD signs Rs 810.79 crore deal with BDL for 160 air-to-ground weapons for IAF
The Defence Ministry has contracted Bharat Dynamics Limited for 160 Satellite Smart Anti Airfield Weapons and associated equipment for the Indian Air Force at a cost of Rs 810.79 crore.
The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the supply of 160 Satellite Smart Anti Airfield Weapons (SAT-SAAW) and associated equipment to the Indian Air Force, at a total cost of Rs 810.79 crore. The deal falls under the Buy (Indian — Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category and was concluded in New Delhi on September 23, 2026, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
The SAT-SAAW is an air-to-ground precision guided glide bomb capable of being launched from platforms including the Jaguar, Hawk and Su-30 MKI. It is designed to neutralise enemy airfields from a long stand-off range.
The system has been indigenously designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation. It will carry an indigenous content of 60 per cent, with sub-systems such as the Initial Measurement Unit, Long Impact Delay Fuse and Twin Store Carrier also being indigenised.
Deliveries of the weapon are scheduled across 2027-2028 and 2028-2029. The ministry said its induction would enhance the Indian Air Force's operational capability to conduct unhindered operations and strengthen the country's defence preparedness.
