Modi, Marcos hold talks on BRICS sidelines; India-Philippines ties in focus
PM Narendra Modi met Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in New Delhi on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit, with both sides agreeing to deepen cooperation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in New Delhi on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit. The Prime Minister welcomed the Philippines' participation in the summit in its capacity as the current chair of ASEAN.
During the meeting, the two leaders noted with satisfaction the progress achieved in bilateral cooperation across all areas and agreed to deepen and expand collaboration in defence and security, trade and investment, space, railway infrastructure, fintech, education, tourism, science and technology, innovation, and people-to-people ties.
Both sides agreed to take bilateral relations further under the framework of the Strategic Partnership established between India and the Philippines in August 2025, during President Marcos' State Visit to India.
The Prime Minister also welcomed the Philippines' decision to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.
The leaders exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across all areas of the Strategic Partnership.
