Modi lauds Meloni's record tenure, calls it a mark of public faith

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on becoming the longest continuously serving head of government in Italy's postwar history. In a post on X, Mr. Modi described the achievement as a reflection of the trust and confidence that the Italian people have placed in her leadership.
Ms. Meloni, 49, who took office on October 22, 2022, crossed 1,413 days in power on September 4, surpassing all uninterrupted postwar tenures. She is also the first woman to hold the position in Italy.
Mr. Modi noted that Ms. Meloni's friendship has been instrumental in strengthening the India-Italy Special Strategic Partnership. He expressed his desire to continue close cooperation for the prosperity of both nations and wished her continued success in the years ahead.
Responding to the congratulatory message, Ms. Meloni said the relationship between Italy and India is today stronger than ever. She stated that the Special Strategic Partnership launched during their last meeting recognises the importance of this bond and reflects a shared will to combine expertise for new growth avenues.
Ms. Meloni also expressed confidence that Italy and India will together continue to strengthen the connection between Europe and Asia, working side by side on initiatives such as the India-West Asia-Europe Economic Corridor.
