Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz spoke by telephone on Thursday, reviewing the progress of the India-Germany Strategic Partnership as the two countries mark 75 years of diplomatic relations this year.
In a statement, the Prime Minister's Office said the two leaders noted the sustained momentum in high-level exchanges between the two sides and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation across key areas, including trade and investment, advanced technologies, clean energy, defence, education and talent mobility.
Modi described Germany as an important pillar of India's engagement with Europe and a valued partner in promoting global peace, stability and prosperity. In a post on X, he said he had a warm and productive conversation with Merz and that both sides restated their commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership across trade and investment, defence, clean energy, advanced technologies and talent mobility, among other areas.
"Together, we will continue to deepen our forward-looking Strategic Partnership for the benefit of the people of our countries," Modi said.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest and agreed to continue working closely to promote global peace, stability and prosperity.
