Modi, Burundi President Ndayishimiye Hold Talks on BRICS Sidelines
PM Narendra Modi met African Union Chairperson and Burundi President Évariste Ndayishimiye during the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Évariste Ndayishimiye, Chairperson of the African Union and President of the Republic of Burundi, on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
During the talks, the two leaders recalled India's role in securing the African Union's membership of the G20 during India's presidency in 2023. They described the India-African Union partnership as a key pillar of cooperation within the Global South and discussed convening the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-IV) at a mutually convenient date.
The Prime Minister commended the African Union's leadership for its handling of the Ebola outbreak. The AU Chairperson, in turn, appreciated the medical support extended by India to the Africa CDC to help mitigate the outbreak.
The two leaders also reviewed the state of India-Burundi relations, which they said continue to be marked by warmth, solidarity and shared developmental aspirations. Their discussions covered economic cooperation, development partnership, agricultural modernization, healthcare and capacity-building initiatives.
