PM Modi, Iranian President Hold Talks on Sidelines of SCO Summit
PM Modi met Iranian President Pezeshkian at the SCO Summit in Bishkek, discussing bilateral ties, West Asia tensions, and cooperation in BRICS and SCO.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek. The two leaders reviewed the state of bilateral relations between India and Iran.
The discussions also covered the evolving situation in West Asia. Prime Minister Modi expressed concern over the rising tensions in the region and reiterated India's consistent position that all disputes should be settled through dialogue and diplomacy.
Emphasising the need for lasting peace and stability, the Prime Minister called for safeguarding freedom of navigation and commerce. He stressed that civilians and civilian infrastructure, including commercial shipping and seafarers, must not be harmed under any circumstances.
Reaffirming India's readiness to work closely with Iran in multilateral forums, including BRICS and SCO, PM Modi conveyed his expectation of welcoming President Pezeshkian to India for the upcoming BRICS Summit.
