Modi, Pezeshkian hold second meeting in a fortnight at BRICS Summit
PM Modi met Iranian President Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, their second meeting in under two weeks.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, marking the second interaction between the two leaders in less than a fortnight. They had previously met on the margins of the SCO Summit in Bishkek on 31 August.
During the talks, the two sides reviewed various dimensions of the bilateral relationship. The Prime Minister conveyed India's appreciation to Iran for maintaining regular, high-level participation in BRICS-related engagements despite difficult circumstances. He also thanked President Pezeshkian for attending the Leaders' Session of the BRICS Business Forum.
Modi highlighted the potential of BRICS to foster resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability among countries of the Global South.
The leaders exchanged views on recent developments in West Asia. The Prime Minister restated India's consistent position that all issues should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. He stressed the importance of sustained efforts to secure lasting peace and stability in the region, protect freedom of navigation and commerce, and ensure the safety and well-being of seafarers.
Modi also acknowledged the ongoing cooperation between the two countries on matters of mutual interest in multilateral organisations, including BRICS.
